Cialis Uses

Cialisis used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence; inability to get or keep an erection) in men. Cialis is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection. Cialis does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire. Cialis does not prevent pregnancy or the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Taking Cialis

Cialis is a tablet to be taken by mouth. Cialis is usually taken with or without food before sexual activity. Your doctor will help you decide the best time for you to take Cialis before sexual activity. Cialis should not be taken more often than once every 24 hours. If you have certain health conditions or are taking certain medications, your doctor may tell you to take Cialis less often. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Take Cialis exactly as instructed. Do not take more or less Cialis or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Your doctor will probably start you on an average dose of Cialis and increase or decrease your dose depending on your response to the medication. Tell your doctor if Cialis is not working well or if you are experiencing side effects.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with Cialis include headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose. These effects usually go away after a few hours. Patients who get back pain and muscle aches usually get it 12 to 24 hours after taking Cialis. Back pain and muscle aches usually go away by themselves within 48 hours.Tell your doctor if you get a side effect that bothers you or one that will not go away.

Precautions

Before taking Cialis, tell your doctor about all your medical problems, including if you: have heart problems such as angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeats, or have had a heart attack, have low blood pressure or have high blood pressure that is not controlled, have had a stroke, have liver problems, have kidney problems or require dialysis, have retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic (runs in families) eye disease, have stomach ulcers, have a bleeding problem, have a deformed penis shape or Peyronie’s disease, have had an erection that lasted more than 4 hours or have blood cell problems such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia. Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to have sexual activity.

If you take nitrates, often used for chest pain (also known as angina), or alpha-blockers (other than Flomax 0.4 mg once daily), prescribed for prostate problems or high blood pressure, do not take Cialis. Such combinations could cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure.

Do not drink alcohol in excess (to a level of intoxication) when taling Cialis. This combination may increase your chances of getting dizzy or lowering your blood pressure.

Cialis does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases. A condom is the only only way to protect yourself from these diseases.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of all the medications you take including prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Cialis taken with other medications may affect each other. Always check with your doctor before starting or stopping any medications. Especially tell your doctor if you take any of the following medications called nitrates , medications called alpha blockers. These include: Hytrin ® (terazosin HCl), Flomax ® (tamsulosin HCl), Cardura® (doxazosin mesylate), Minipress® (prazosin HCl) or Uroxatral ® (alfuzosin HCl), ritonavir (Norvir ®) or indinavir (Crixivan®) , ketoconazole or itraconazole (such as Nizoral ® or Sporanox®), erythromycin and other medications or treatments for ED.

Cialis Overdose

No overdose of Cialis has been reported. However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Cialis seek medical attention immediately.

Cialis Storage

Store Cialis at room temperature between 59° and 86°F (15° and 30°C).
