Taking Valtrex

Take Valtrex by mouth as directed. Take all Valtrex as prescribed. Do not skip doses or stop taking this without your doctor's approval. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment.

Valtrex is most effective if it is started within 48 hours of when the rash first appears.

Side effects

Side effects associated with valtrex can include nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, weakness, stomach pain or dizziness which may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to valtrex. Tell your doctor if any of these side effects continue or become bothersome. Notify your doctor if your condition does not appear to improve or you experience a worsening of symptoms while taking valtrex.

Precautions

Tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease, blood disorders or if you have any allergies.

For Women: Valtrex should be used only if clearly needed if you are pregnant. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor of using valtrex while pregnant. It is not known if valtrex is excreted in breast milk, speak to your doctor before breast feeding.

Do not share valtrex with others.

Drug Interactions

Before starting a course of valtrex tell your doctor of any over the counter or prescription medications you may take including cimetidine or probenecid.

Overdose

If an overdose of valtrex is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Valtrex Storage

Valtrex should be stored at room temperature between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 to 25 degrees C). Store away from heat and light.

Keep valtrex out of the reach of children.
