Side Effects

Side effects of zithromax may include nausea, stomach upset, trouble sleeping, headache, or cold symptoms may occur. If these effects persist or get worse, tell your doctor promptly. Unlikely side effects of zithromax but report promptly the following: dizziness, mental/mood changes, fast heartbeat, fever.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat.
Although drowsiness is very uncommon at usual zithromax dose levels under normal circumstances, it may occur and may effect your ability to perfom tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving).

Precautions

Before taking zithromax tell your prescriber if you have any of the following conditions:; kidney disease, liver disease, pneumonia, stomach problems (especially colitis), other chronic illness, an unusual or allergic reaction to zithromax, other macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), foods, dyes, or preservatives, or if you are breast feeding.

Drug Interactions

The following drugs may interact with zithromax: antacids, astemizole, digoxin, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, magnesium salts, terfenadine, triazolam and warfarin.
Tell your prescriber about all other medications you are taking, including all non-prescription medications, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Tell your prescriber if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way zithromax works. Check with your doctor before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

Overdose

If an overdose of zithromax is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of an overdose of zithromax may include irregular or unusually slow or fast heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of zithromax, take the missed dose as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses of zithromax. There should be an interval of at least 12 hours between zithromax doses.

Zithromax Storage

Zithromax should be stored at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C), keep away from sunlight and moisture.
