Aciphex Uses

Aciphex (Rabeprazole) is used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid such as peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Aciphex (Rabeprazole) may be used in combination with antibiotics to treat certain types of ulcers.

Aciphex (Rabeprazole) may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to use Aciphex

Aciphex is a delayed release (long-acting) tablet that should be taken by mouth.

Aciphex is usually taken once each day for extended periods of time.

When Aciphex is being taken to treat ulcers, it should be taken after the morning meal.

Aciphex tablets should be swallowed whole, do not split, chew, or crush the tablets.

If Aciphex is being taken to treat gastric ulcers or reflux disease, your symptoms should improve within 4 to 8 weeks. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, contact your doctor.

Aciphex Side effects

No common side effects have been reported with the proper use of aciphex. If you notice any unusual effects, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

The most common side effect possibly related to aciphex is headaches. Patients also taking warfarin may need to be monitored more closely by their doctor.

Precautions

Tell your doctor if you have active or inactive liver disease.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking aciphex, call your doctor.

It is not know if aciphex is excreted in breast milk.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to rabeprazole, lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec), pantoprazole (Protonix), or any other medications.

Tell your doctor and what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Be sure to mention any of the following medicines: cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), digoxin (Lanoxin), and ketoconazole (Nizoral). Your doctor may need to change the dose of Aciphex or monitor you carefully for Aciphex side effects.

Aciphex Overdose

If an overdose of aciphex is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of aciphex and you are taking 1 dose daily, take the missed dose if you remember the same day. Skip the missed dose if you do not remember until the next day. Do not take 2 doses at once to make up.

Aciphex Storage

Store aciphex at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) and away from excess heat and moisture. Do not keep aciphex in the bathroom.

Keep aciphex out of reach of children.
