How to use Antivert (Meclizine)

Follow the instructions supplies with your Antivert (Meclizine). Take Antivert (Meclizine) only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more Antivert or take it more often than stated on the label or prescribed by your doctor, doing so may increase the risks of side effects.

Side effects

The most common side effects if Antivert (Meclizine) is drowsiness. Less common side effects include: Blurred or double vision,  constipation,  diarrhea,  difficult or painful urination,  dizziness,  dryness of mouth, nose, and throat,  fast heartbeat,  headache,  loss of appetite,  nervousness, restlessness, or trouble in sleeping,  skin rash and upset stomach 

Precautions

If you have any skin tests for allergies tell your doctor you are taking Antivert (Meclizine), the results of the test may be affected by this medicine.

Antivert (Meclizine) will add to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants. Some examples of CNS depressants are antihistamines or medicine for hay fever, other allergies, or colds; sedatives, tranquilizers, or sleeping medicine; prescription pain medicine or narcotics; barbiturates; medicine for seizures; muscle relaxants; or anesthetics, including some dental anesthetics. Check with your doctor before taking any of the above while you are using this medicine.

Antivert (Meclizine) may cause some people to become drowsy or less alert than they are normally. Make sure you know how you react to Antivert (Meclizine) before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

Antivert (Meclizine) may cause dryness of the mouth. For temporary relief use sugarless candy or gum, melt bits of ice in your mouth, or use a saliva substitute. However, if your mouth continues to feel dry for more than 2 weeks, check with your medical doctor or dentist. Continuing dryness of the mouth may increase the chance of dental disease, including tooth decay, gum disease, and fungus infections.

Tell you doctor if you have any of the following: Asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or other chronic lung disease. Antivert (Meclizine) may cause serious breathing problems in patients who have any of these conditions.

Enlarged prostate or Glaucoma or Intestinal blockage or Urinary tract blockage. Antivert may make these conditions worse

Heart failure. Antivert (Meclizine) may make the condition worse

Although Antivert (Meclizine) may pass into breast milk, they have not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies. However, since Antivert tends to decrease the secretions of the body, it is possible that the flow of breast milk may be reduced in some patients.

Antivert (Meclizine) has not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems in humans. However, studies in animals have shown that buclizine, cyclizine, and meclizine given in doses many times the usual human dose cause birth defects, such as cleft palate.

Drug Interactions

Tell you doctor if you are taking any of the following: Central nervous system (CNS) depressants, other (medications that make you drowsy or less alert or Tricyclic antidepressants (medicine for depression). Use with buclizine, cyclizine, or meclizine may increase the side effects of either medication.

Overdose

If an overdose of Antivert (Meclizine) is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Anitvert (Meclizine) and you are taking 1 dose daily, take the missed dose if you remember the same day. Skip the missed dose if you do not remember until the next day. Do not take 2 doses of Antivert (Meclizine) at once to make up.

Antivert (Meclizine) Storage

Store Antivert (Meclizine) at room temperature away from heat and direct light. Do not keep Antivert in the bathroom or any other damp place.
