Elidel Cream Uses

Elidel cream is used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis which is a skin condition where itching, redness and inflammation of the skin occurs, much like an allergic reaction.

Elidel cream can be used for short or long term treatment. Elidel cream is often used when other types of treatment either do not work or when you unable to tolerate other treatments.

How to use Elidel Cream

Elidel cream is applied to the skin. Elidel cream is usually applied twice daily for up to 6 weeks at a time. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully and apply elidel cream exactly as instructed. Do not use more or less elidel cream or apply more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Only apply elidel cream when you have the symptoms of atopic dermatitis. Call your doctor when your symptoms go away to determine if you should stop applying elidel cream. Call your doctor if you notice that your symptoms have come back to determine if you should start using Elidel cream again.
It may take at least 2 weeks before you feel the full benefits, but your symptoms should improve within 6 weeks. Call your doctor if your symptoms get worse at any time during elidel cream treatment, or do not improve after 6 weeks of treatment.
When applying elidel cream, wash your hands with soap and water before applyinh. Apply a thin layer of elidel cream to all the affected areas of skin. You may apply elidel cream to all the affected skin surfaces, including your head, face, and neck. Do not to get elidel cream in your eyes or mouth. Rub into your skin gently and completely. Wash your hands with soap and water after applying the cream, but do not wash your hands if you are using elidel cream to treat your hands. You may cover the areas treated with normal clothing, but do not use bandages, dressings, or wraps on the treated areas.
Be careful not to wash elidel cream off affected areas where it has been applied. Do not swim, shower, or bathe immediately after applying the cream.
If your doctor recommends a moisturizer, apply it after applying elidel cream.

Side effects

The most common side effect while using elidel cream is burning or a feeling of warmth. The burning feeling is usually mild or moderate and occurs mainly in the first 5 days of treatment, and usually clears up in a few days. Tell your doctor if the effect is severe or persists for more than a week. Other common side effects while using elidel cream include headache, and with long-term intermittent use, nasopharyngitis (common cold/stuffy nose), influenza, pharyngitis (sore throat), fever, viral infection, and cough. Some people may get herpes skin infections (like cold sores, chicken pox, or shingles), warts, or swollen lymph nodes (glands). Tell your doctor if side effects continue or become a problem.

Precautions

Tell your prescriber of all prescription or over the counter medications you may use. Tell your doctor before you start using other ointments, creams, or lotion.
Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamos or tanning booths. Wear protective clothing if you must go outside for prolonged periods of time.
If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, consult with your doctor the benefits and risks of using elidel cream during pregnancy. It is not known if Elidel cream is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast feed while using Elidel cream.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you use, in particular other topical medications. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of elavil cream, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose.

Elidel Cream Storage

Elidel cream should be stored at room temperature (77 °F), do not freeze or refrigerate.
